Salary benchmarks for sales & BD roles in the UAE — 2026

We analysed 12,000+ job listings across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah to bring you the most up-to-date salary data for sales, BD, and commercial roles.

Salary data in the UAE is notoriously hard to come by. Unlike markets with mandatory pay transparency (California, the UK), Gulf companies rarely publish salary ranges. We analysed 12,000+ job listings and cross-referenced with candidate-reported offer data to produce the most current benchmarks available.

All figures are in AED per month (basic salary, excluding bonus and allowances unless noted).

Key variables that move salaries

Sector matters more than title. A Senior BDM at a fintech company typically earns 20–35% more than the same title at a traditional retailer. SaaS, payments, and healthtech are the highest-paying verticals in the Gulf right now.

Company stage. Series B–D startups in Dubai routinely offer 15–25% above market on base salary, plus equity (rare in the Gulf but becoming more common). Enterprise companies (banks, telcos, government-linked entities) offer lower base but higher stability and strong benefits.

OTE vs. base. Sales roles in the UAE often have an on-target earnings (OTE) structure where base is 60–70% of total comp. A role advertised at "AED 25K base + commission" could total AED 40K–50K for a strong performer. Always ask for OTE and quota details before comparing offers.

Nationality premium. It exists and it's real, though shrinking. Arabic-speaking candidates for MENA-facing roles can command 10–20% above average. Western passport holders historically received a premium in banking and consulting, though this gap has narrowed significantly since 2022.

How to negotiate in the UAE

  • **Always counter.** First offers in Dubai are almost always negotiable. A 10–15% counter is standard and expected.
  • **Bundle the package.** Housing allowance, health insurance for family, and annual flights home (for expats) can add AED 5K–15K/month in equivalent value. These are negotiating levers even when base is fixed.
  • **Get it in writing before resigning.** Verbal offers in the Gulf are common but not always honoured. Request a formal offer letter with all components itemised before serving notice.
  • **Know your visa situation.** If you're currently on a company visa, you'll need either a transfer (common) or a grace period to switch. Factor this into your timeline — it typically takes 2–4 weeks.

The bonus question

Most sales roles in the UAE include quarterly or annual bonuses tied to targets. In our data, typical bonus structures range from 20% of base (conservative) to 100%+ of base (aggressive commission structures, common in real estate and financial services).

When evaluating a role, ask: "What did average performers earn in total comp last year?" This is more informative than the OTE figure, which is typically set at a level where only top quartile performers achieve it.
